The 1980s called, they want their evening-wear back! We understand that harkening back to that specific decade can get a designer some nostalgia points every once and a while, but what we will never get is why some choose to revive the uglier parts of that era. Emilio de la Morena is one such designer who committed this sin. His Fall 2019 collection was simply an array of 80s cocktail-wear and evening ensembles dyed in neon colors to make it all seem modern and contemporary. But that strategy only led to a line of tragic overly-frilled pieces in unflattering silhouettes. And those color combinations! They’re so garish, they’d make you wish you were color blind just so you won’t get totally blind! The only redeeming factor was this multi-colored degrade halter dress. But is one piece enough to save a collection? Probably not! De la Morena will just have to do infinitely better next season to capture our attention again!
