Inclusivity has always been the name of the game over at Claudia Li but in her Fall 2019 show, the other highlight was authenticity. Li has always been proud of her Asian heritage, and beyond the all-Asian casting in her shows, her clothes are often spirited with a serene Eastern influence. This season, it was all about the lily and the beauty and calmness that it resonates to other people. The flower came in an overblown print decorated monochrome pajama-style suits and floaty daywear and cocktail frocks. The tenderness of it was also resplendent on the draped and pleated silhouettes that billowed against the body. The softness of such a collection was almost palpitating, especially for a fall line, which made the incorporation of more structured outerwear make a lot more sense. Here, there were buttery leather coats and lambskin-sleeved jackets that provided comfort and shape. They were the perfect juxtapositions to the lily-induced lightness of it all. But come fall, it’s highly likely that both styles will render favoritism among many clients!
