We honestly aren’t the hugest fans of the liquid highlighter trend. There’s just something about the way these kinds of products are normally prepared that don’t really impress us all that much. Most of them just seem blotchy, exacerbating oiliness for the wrong kind of shine, and wearing off way too quickly. What a delight, then, that Charlotte Tilbury’s eponymous brand has decided to take on this challenge, because they have succeeded at creating a very strong liquid highlighter formula that avoids the pitfalls that we have seen from plenty of liquid highlighters out in the market.
The Beauty Light Wand Liquid Highlighter, as the brand calls it, is dispensed from a small wand-like tube that has a fluffy sponge-like applicator tip. One of the first things we have to applaud this product for is its shade range. While it’s not the most stunning shade range in terms of quantity, somehow Charlotte Tilbury has managed to create a range that flatters people with so many different skin tones, from the lightest to the deepest colors.
Formula-wise, this product does quite well for itself. Unlike some liquid highlighters we’ve used in the past, the level of intensity that this product has is absolutely customizable, which makes for a very pleasant experience when you’re applying the stuff because it gives you room to decide how much of it you want on. The formula is also quite blendable, whether you use the sponge tip of the dispensing tube or a separate brush or sponge (we personally prefer a damp blending sponge, but whatever rocks your boat, really). The product also stays on for a good amount of time, giving you the gift of its gorgeous glow for as long as you need it to stay on.
Now, there are a few things about this product that bothered us a little bit. They’re not major formula issues or anything, but they’re definitely noteworthy when it comes to the way you’ll end up using this product. First of all, our thing about built-in sponge tip applicators is that they end up so messy, and without a good amount of regular cleaning, might end up doing a lot more harm to your skin than good because it’s basically soaked in product at all times. This product also has a tendency to grab to some dry patches on your skin, so if you do have any problematic spots in any of the areas you intend to use this highlighter in, perhaps make sure it doesn’t exacerbate your dry patches.
Overall, this is a pretty impressive take on liquid highlighter, and we’re glad to see Charlotte Tilbury stepping up to the plate to take on this challenge with plenty of aplomb to spare. We’re very happy with this product, and if you’re looking for a new, easy way to do highlighter, this product might just be for you.
