Wes Gordon is clearly changing things up at Carolina Herrera. The once extremely polished fashion house has been enthused with a youthful flair and vibrancy that’s less stiff and a whole lot easier. Just take a look at their Fall 2019 show—a parade of free-form silhouettes, imaginative color-blocking, and amazing textiles. For starters, the show began with a tent gown in bright yellow with an azure floral print which had the elegance for evening but the ease and daintiness for day. The label’s classic white shirts were paired with sleek black trousers but given a pop of color by way of satin sashes draped by the waist. Even tailoring received a more youthful glow as an array of pantsuits had cut-outs on them, showing off a bit of skin in such powerful and rigid silhouettes. In the eveningwear, two looks were particularly noteworthy. A column gown in silver metallic with a colorful floral motif—a vision of youthful effervesence—and a white shirt-turned-evening gown that can make for a very pragmatic and modern wedding dress. Such numbers prove that even with all the changes by Gordon, the brand never lost its sense of sophistication!
