If there ever was a male-equivalent to Phoebe Philo and her fantastic minimalist work at Celine, it would be Christophe Lemaire. Be it for his eponymous brand or his collaboration with Japanese-based fast fashion behemoth Uniqlo, his refined take on simple style is both sophisticated and untouchable. For him, and particularly his Fall 2019 Menswear collection, it’s all about quality, cut, and texture. Dealing with somber earthy tones, he put more emphasis on the silhouette, particularly when it came to his more tailored ensembles. A dusky brown wool coat, for instance, beautifully exemplified its boxy shape when worn with a more tight-fitting olive green outfit underneath. As well as a cocoon shape-like coat, that looked a lot rounder when paired with a bright tan turtleneck and pencil-thin black trousers. And what of texture? A well-fitted shearling coat seemed to evoke a rich sense of luxury despite its stark simplicity. These may be just clothes, but they’re made with such quality and skill that they go beyond fashion! Maybe even beyond luxury!
