The “Wars of the Roses” was a historical conflict in England, and was said to have been the basis for the successful book series-turned-TV phenomenon “Game Of Thrones.” And as fate would put it, at the same time the show recently premiered its eighth season, Alexander McQueen released their Fall 2019 Menswear line, which looks to be inspired by the same events. In an array of extremely sharp suits, the ‘rose’ part of the narrative was most obvious, what with the printed and embellished treatments the flora got on the many tailored ensembles. Though opinions on them might vary, one can’t deny their level or romanticism, both dark and otherwise, that’s well within the vocabulary of the brand. Sarah Burton then shifted her focus on her Northern upbringing, using mills from the said region to come up with houndstooth and other check textiles and cut them up to become some of the most sophisticated suits the label has ever produced. Even the knitwear that bore the same patterns were particularly elegant. By evening, the story went full circle, with decorated three-piece looks embellished with shimmering silver chains, as if the men were locked away in towers from the Middle Ages. Their punkish attitude was well in-tune with the McQueen identity, and like many other outfits in this line, are bound to become bestsellers. Once again, Alexander McQueen offered a sublime menswear offering for the ages!
