Even when it’s nearing fall, Silvia Tcherassi is giving women as much skin exposure as possible. And why not? As the saying goes, “if you got it, flaunt it!” But what’s striking about her Pre-Fall 2019 Collection is just how unapologetically feminine it is. In this age of the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, female designers have taken the responsibility of redefining how women dress. And while many others focus on sharp tailoring, this Colombian-born designer instills within her clothes her native sense festivity and fragile femininity. The festivity was present in the silhouettes—full of floaty and billowy pieces that even when the wearer is still, the wind is able to provide the airy movement. The lightness of the clothes, paired with the pastel shades Tcherassi chose for this season, contribute to its fragile femininity. Let it be known that the women who wear these aren’t fragile, but quite literally, the clothes are. And those brave enough to sport them for Fall are stronger than they look. Still, strength isn’t necessarily what comes to mind when people see the blue and pink candy-striped pieces with frill-ed up hems, nor the silky pleated floral frocks that serve as the line’s evening selection. However, these clothes encourage confidence and courage, and despite such overt femininity, these are what make this collection looks strong and powerful.
