The most annoying thing that a beauty product can do is not understand what it wants to achieve. No matter how well it applies, if the product is inconsistent about what it can do, it takes away from the richness of the experience. This seems to be the case with the Terracotta Skin Foundation Stick from Guerlain.
There are a few things to admire about the formula of this pretty new product. First of all, as is typical with stick-anything formulas, this product is very easy to bring around for on-the-go applications, so that might just make this product an essential for you if that’s your kind of lifestyle. Formula-wise, this product does leave skin looking absolutely smoothed out with its medium-to-full coverage color. The consistency is also definitely a high point of the product. It goes on very smoothly, without skipping or dragging, and once laid out on the skin, blends so easily.
Much of our general confusion about this product concerns its finish. Like most stick foundations out there, it sets into a demi-matte that, for some reason, is also a little bit too dewy for our taste. A little luminosity is fine—welcome, even—for matte products, but they have to come in even doses, harmonizing with the matte. With this product, the finish just ends up looking patchier than it actually. This weird quirk also makes the product prone to caking, which is very much unwelcome, and advances any building oiliness in the skin after just a short wear time.
At the end of the day, we were just baffled by how seemingly inept the product was. As a stick foundation, it doesn’t really bring anything good to the table that’s particularly unique to the product. And with the price tag this product sports, that’s a huge letdown.
SUITABLE FOR: All skin types.

- Part of our shock about the Terracotta Skin Foundation Stick’s failure stems from our love for the Terracotta collection’s banner product, the Terracotta Bronzing Powder. We previously wrote about the latter product here on the site.
