It’s sad to think that fashion will no longer see the architectural dynamism of Josep Font for Delpozo. His final collection for the brand was the Spring 2019 show in London last September, and for the upcoming Resort 2012 presentation, the newly-appointed Lutz Huelle is expected to take over. For now, the label’s in-house design team is in charge of creating the collections, which is clearly still influenced by Mr. Font. Their Pre-Fall 2019 offering, entitled “Floral Breeze,” still have remnants of Font’s colorful and structure signature, as well as his classic take on feminine sophistication. Surprisingly enough, this was a decidedly powerful-looking collection, with tailored pieces to clothe the modern working woman as she rises up the corporate ladder. But instead of the more masculine shades of navy and dark neutrals, the Delpozo woman is wearing pastel shades of rose, baby blue, cream, and some hints of bright red-orange. Some of the house’s signature structured flounces are still present, giving both edge and daintiness to otherwise streamlined numbers. For evening, things got a little more innocent and girlier with the floaty floral dresses. This was more in-line with the old-school codes of haute couture, which makes sense since the brand pride itself as a “demi-couture” label. It looks like Huelle has big shoes to fill, and here’s to hoping that he continues the brand’s tradition of trotting our unbelievably beautiful fashions.
