Clinique Pop™ Lip Colour + Primer Lipstick Review
Product Description
Clinique’s Pop™ Lip Colour + Primer is, to us, pretty clearly not one of the best lipsticks out in the market. Even though there are certain things about its formulation that we do like—hydration, finish, et cetera—we just found it a bit of a hassle to put on, honestly. We wish we could like this lipstick more, but we’re just not all that impressed.

The Pop™ Lip Colour + Primer from Clinique is a dual-function lipstick; it serves as both a lip color and a lip primer. In theory, this means we don’t have to think about doing too much prep work anymore when we’re applying this lipstick. This is what really piqued our interest in this product. So how did we find it?

Because of the dual-function nature of this lipstick, it’s the kind of lipstick that doesn’t really need a balm or any other moisturizing product underneath it to get it to sit (mostly) well on the lips. We also like how the shades of this lipstick are pretty true-to-color, at least in terms of how it looks on the bullet and the packaging, which makes picking the right shade so much easier. We’re also very much into the finish. While it’s a pretty sheer lipstick, the finish is strongly glossy, and that glossiness really sticks even when the color isn’t really as present anymore. Finally, for this kind of lipstick, the wear time is actually pretty decent, wearing for a good four or so hours before you need to touch it up.

But this lipstick certainly isn’t perfect. There are a lot of things we just don’t like about the way it’s formulated. We can forgive sheer color lipsticks, but what we can’t forgive is patchiness. When you put this lipstick on, it looks weird and blotchy, and it takes a little while to actually make the color look really good. There’s definitely a lot of building up to be done with this kind of lipstick. Additionally, we hate how it settles into fine lines, which is a problem when you have dry lips.

So is this lipstick any good? We can’t unequivocally say yes because we did encounter a good number of issues while trying this one out, but it’s at least worth a shot. If a sheer-color lippie is what you need, this one might just be your solution.

SUITABLE FOR: All skin types.
