Giorgio Armani is one of those brands that we easily associate with luxury, almost as a status symbol. Since they came into the beauty scene, they have been concerned with porting that same luxury sensibility into different makeup products. One of these is the ultra-luxurious Rouge D’Armani Matte Lipstick.
This luxury lipstick has a lot going for it, we reckon. The first thing we noticed about this lipstick upon initially swatching it was the color. When the product finally got to our lips, we were able to confirm that the color and pigmentation are richer and much more vivid than even other matte lipsticks we’ve tried on. Whichever shade you decide to put on, you can be guaranteed that it’s going to look absolutely fantastic because of the fullness of the tint. We were also impressed by how smoothly this lipstick went on. For something that’s so matte, we were almost surprised at the way it seemed to glide on our lips, and deposit color. The wear time for this product is also pretty crazy, lasting a good 6-8 hours without needing reapplication, which is pretty rare for a bullet-type lipstick, even matte finishes.
Most of our issues with this product, on the other hand, were more about the experience of actually wearing this lipstick as opposed to how it looked or how it was formulated. The “grab” of this lipstick is pretty intense, almost feeling like it clamped itself down onto our lips. As a result, our lips felt really heavy and dry, as if the lipstick itself was starving our lips of moisture in an attempt to stay put better (which it did, for the record). Also, we hated how the product did have a tendency to slip subtly onto the fine lines of the lips. Because our lips got so dry, those cracks and lines were more prominent, thus the lipstick had a lot more to hold on to. And finally, of course, the price of this product is no laughing matter. There are plenty of great lipsticks out there for under (or just a little bit over) $20.00, and this costs twice that, so that’s definitely a huge consideration for if you’re ever thinking of purchasing this product.
We don’t hate this lipstick, but we wish we loved it more. We love strong pigments and great wear time as much as the next beauty enthusiast out there, but something about this particular product just didn’t quite sit right with us. Maybe it’s the price tag, or the way that it ended up exacerbating some of our concerns when it comes to our lips—or maybe it’s ultimately the combination of both. Whatever it is, we just don’t feel like this is a lipstick we’d particularly want to use on the regular because it just doesn’t feel as comfortable to wear.
SUITABLE FOR: Lips that aren’t too dry.
