Andrew Gn surprised everyone with a whole new approach in his Fall 2019 show. It was decidedly more modern, both in vibe and construction, without sacrificing his own allegiance to haute couture traditions. Despite their more modern attitudes, these are still clothes women of society can (and probably will) wear in their numerous galas and social engagements. Inspired by mid-century Hollywood icons such as Nancy Kwan and Grace Kelly, the overall appeal of the line was still all about old-school elegance. The animal prints and mini feathered dresses, however, allowed it to have a more contemporary allure. Although oftentimes the prints got a little too overwhelming, some iterations, like the cocoon-shaped opening coat in zebra print or the emerald green leopard print pleated dress, were subtle, chic, and refined. A series of black suits decorated with a slithering python made for intriguing daywear choices, while the divinely structured evening gowns that closed the show was classic Andrew Gn couture. This was, perhaps, one of his strongest shows to date.
