If you have a strong brand ambassador as well-known as Gigi Hadid, you’d be tempted to go easy on the designs. But this wasn’t what Sally LaPointe was willing to do. Despite all her clothes looking like the wardrobe of the famous Instagram supermodel, this New York-based designer still had her own identity and story to share. For spring 2019, her collection was all about a futuristic sense of cool and edginess, as if her client was a survivor of a major apocalypse. Some of her outfits looked downright Matrix-like, particularly the dark navy pieces in shimmering pleather. A sense of ease came through in the color palette, which was almost all about the neutrals, save for a couple of urban prints and a section of peach and hot pink looks. From the sleekness of the silhouettes to the sexiness in some of the pieces, it’s clear she’s pandering to the social media influencer crowd, and when an apocalypse does end the world, at least many of the survivors will be divinely-dressed.
