Oftentimes, artistic touches on a fashion collection make it seem more intimate and valuable. But if the designer relies on such techniques too much, it might come out rather lazy-looking. Ironically, Raquel Allegra‘s process with her latest collection was anything but lazy, and also extremely artistic. With a heavy focus on tie-dying, she painted her Fall 2019 line with soothing tones of cobalt, jade, plum, and cherry red. But to be completely honest, the execution left a whole lot to be desired. Granted these are easy and elegant clothes, most of them just look too simple. So much so that it’s easy to brush the designer off as having been lazy and simply relying on the tie-dye effects for that selling impact. We recognize the craftsmanship and talent that went into making these softly-tailored looks, but the bigger question remains: will the customers care? Are they willing to pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars for clothes that look like items they can make themselves at home? Will they appreciate that the construction of the pieces is highly questionable? These are the problems Ms. Allegra will have to face come fall!
