Kenzo’s Fall 2019 show in Paris was quite a trip! It was a colorful equilibrium of fabulous frivolity, diverse ethnicities, and modern workwear that only a few would only dare to wear during the day. That’s not to say that these are exclusively all party clothes. In fact, there was a lot of daywear in this offering, but they were packed in with so much fluff, color, and print that anyone brave enough to sport them on the street will have all eyes glued to her. But on a different matter, this was a relatively personal collection fo co-creative director Humberto Leon, whose inspiration for this line touched upon his Peruvian-Chinese roots. He even invited some of his family to Paris to see the collection themselves—which was a glamorous take and tribute to their stunning culture. This alludes to the outerwear and knitwear pieces in the show, which take their visual cues from the culture’s iconic ponchos and plaid pattern. The pollera skirt, in this instance, was given a modern and urban interpretation by way of pairing it with puffer jackets. Not only was this a stunning celebration of one’s culture, but it’s also a fun and exuberant take on classic styles can often influence modern fashions!
