Belle d’Opium by Yves Saint Laurent Review
Description
It’s unavoidable to make associations between Belle d’Opium and Opium, but the former is not quite the classic. It succeeds in becoming alluring and mysterious, yet the blend is not as complex and flawless as we would have wanted. The opening can easily put off with its strong, chemical smell, and the gardenia, which takes the lead among the accords, is a synthetic whiff. The musk is a little lovely, but nothing special considering its contemporaries. But hey, it does have good sillage and longevity.

Belle d’Opium may try to leech off a classic Yves Saint Laurent fragrance by including Opium in its name, but it is a completely different fragrance. Created through the partnership of Alberto Morillas and Honorine Blanc, it includes notes of mandarin, gardenia, jasmine, lily, incense, tobacco, peach, white pepper, amber, patchouli and sandalwood. Available in 30, 50 and 90 ml, Belle d’Opium targets women who are mysterious, in control, and at times obsessive. Mélanie Thierry was chosen to front ad campaigns for the fragrance.
