Keeping up a fashion line for many years sometimes means resurrecting old but iconic ideas and reinterpreting them in different ways for a new consumer audience. For Nicole Miller, this was the path to take for spring 2019. Pushed ahead by the insistence of her millennial staff, the designer put forth an almost tribute-like collection of her greatest hits, which is why she entitled the show “By Popular Demand.” This included the sequined camouflage print she popularized in the 90s, the sexy slip dresses she made in the same era, as well as a few floral pieces that were from an old 80s collection. Of course, since this was for the girls of today, Miller had to amp up the ante by inflicting a sportswear element. Suddenly, her classic florals were on bomber jackets and her slip dresses were worn with sneakers. This convergence of old and new was a trip down memory lane, as well as a reminder that Nicole Miller is still big in fashion as she was before.
