What is true New York style? It’s different things to different people, but mostly, there’s denim involved. 3×1’s Scott Morrison argues that denim is practically the only focal point of true New York style, even for those in Park Avenue. Just take a look at his Pre-Fall 2019 Collection: an unapologetic array of high-quality basics with stylized jeans, denim skirts, and other variations of the famous fabric. From Morrison’s perspective, there are so many things you can do with denim: turn it into a tailored suit, distress it for a more underground punk look, or simply create timeless and chic pieces with it. The simplicity here is more than minimal, as it evokes a certain edge that’s intrinsic to the New York-style attitude. And while 3×1 isn’t Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren, they certainly put forth a stunning proposal of what it means to truly look like a New Yorker.
