A luxury brand is lucky to have survived a decade, now with how fickle fashion has become these days. But there are certain companies that have been around for a century or two, with their legacies still as strong as ever. One of them is IWC Schaffhausen, celebrating their 150th anniversary this 2018. To mark such an occasion, they released a limited collection of their annual Big Pilot watches Calendar Edition.

Release Date: 2018
Price: US$19,700.00

The brand releases their annual Calendar Edition with different themes each year, last year was the “Le Petit Prince” and prior to that was “Spitfire.” This year, it’s simply all about the 150 years of the premier Portuguese label. Having debuted back in January 2018, the collection only has 100 pieces sold worldwide, making each watch an automatic collector’s item. Its price may break the bank, but will certainly enhance the wrist.

Pros

The piece is striking with its shiny, royal blue face with contrasting white enamel hands. It’s the very picture of modern sophistication yet old-school refinement at its best. Staying true to its edition’s name, it also features dates that the wearer can change easily through its silver steel lacquered dials. With a steel case of 46.2mm in diameter, the timepiece shows its richness in your face. Complete with fine black leather strap, it’s an unapologetic display of wealth and elegance.

Cons

With over 46.2mm in diameter, it’s one of IWC’s biggest timepieces the brand has ever produced, which can still have its faults. Men today want watches that are sleeker and look sexier, which may not be the case for their “150 Years” Annual Calendar edition. Many customers might feel that the watch is too comical-looking, or shoves one’s wealth to your face in a tacky and ruthless manner. Still, the watch exemplifies the finest in horology, and the timepiece exemplifies the pride the brand has for their tradition.
