“You can take a girl out of the city, but you can never take the city out of the girl.” This must be what Julie de Libran was thinking when she was designing Sonia Rykiel’s Pre-Fall 2019 Collection. The Sonia Rykiel customer is a cosmopolitan woman through and through, and while she might go bohemian from time to time (as seen this season), her free spirit is definitely shaped by her experiences in the city. Here, she’s evidently an active and busy woman in the workforce, whose clothes can transition from day-to-night in a matter of minutes and a few accessories. Some oversized outerwear items make for easier and more comfortable garments, which are probably the best to wear when you’re running about in the city. A few pantsuits suggest that this woman is also elegant, taking on sophistication with a contemporary flair. Meanwhile, a number of statement knits, signatures of the brand complete with a touch of logomania, are on offer for the younger millennial crowd whose streetwear sensibilities were shaped by the legacy of the label’s founder. With these 44 looks, Julie de Libran managed to cover most of Sonia Rykiel’s vastly diverse clientele, and such pieces are sure to rake in the big bucks come fall.
