Markus Lupfer’s Pre-Fall 2019 collection is unapologetically British, despite the fact that the designer is of German-descent and has been staying in London for over two decades now without taking citizenship. That fact alone puts one on a headspin, considering the Brexit nightmare that’s been looming over the fashion capital. But when it comes to fashion, Lupfer chose to celebrate the luxurious British lifestyle by touching upon the country’s equestrian subculture. A bevy of cashmere and wooly knitted jumpers paired with swishy pleated skirts make for such elegant attire, as well as a refined take on relaxed tailoring. Hints of the urban London lifestyle, of which Lupfer is probably all too familiar with, came in the black quilted puffer coats and jackets. And for the evening, a wild array of polka-dot and billowy semi-sheer floral dresses that were all kinds of flirtatious and a little bit suggestive. The latter notes that everything in British culture was never always prim and proper, and from a foreign perspective such as Lupfer’s, that’s the more interesting part.
