Vintage-inspired watches have been popular in recent years, probably to serve as a refresh from the impressive but busy displays of sports watches. This has prompted many watchmakers, with centuries of history on their side, to look back and reminisce at old designs. Longines, for one, has its Heritage line, inspired by some of their most successful releases in the past century. In 2015, it has went down the memory lane in as long ago as the 1950s to produce its Longines Heritage Avigation GMT watch.

The Longines Heritage Avigation GMT is based off of the timepiece the Swiss company created for the British Army. Meanwhile, its name is a recall to the time when the watchmaking company manufactured pieces for military units other than the British Army, as well as a combination of the words aviation and navigation. As a military-inspired watch, it is only expected to have a restrained appeal that keeps it to the basics. It is also legible and highly practical while boasting of an anti-magnetic case.

Pros
The color of the Longines Heritage Avigation GMT, while common in other watches, is actually inspired by pilot watches of yore. It is simple but legible, and the white numerals are not unsightly against the black dial. The same could also be said for the inner red numbers and GMT hand that is also of the same color, and the lumed indices and hands would also make time telling as easy as simply glancing on the dial. While the style cues are vintage, its technology proves that it belongs to the modern times. The movement inside, which is the Longines Calibre L704, assures the watch’s accuracy and precision in both time and its secondary function. Its case is also a leap from the previous one because of its Faraday cage and its anti-magnetic capability.
Cons
The subdued beauty of the Longines Heritage Avigation GMT is not for everyone, especially not for people who wear them primarily for showing off. The size may be good for flaunting, but it would be suitable for those with smaller wrists considering the area it would occupy. The diameter is also proportional to its weight. Lastly, its alligator strap can cause a bit of noise against the lugs.
