Description
There isn’t any other market in the retail business quire like sneaker culture. It’s here where ugliness can actually be a better selling point than classic and traditionally beautiful designs. Take Puma’s Thunder Electric Sneakers for example. At first glance, their bulky shape and cluttered appearance may seem unpleasant, but they're actually quite charming and, before you know it, you’re already buying yourself a pair! Don’t worry, they’re worth it!

Sneakers are somewhat of an anomaly in the fashion industry. They’re vital for two extremely different fields—fashion and sports—and their market is one that actually appreciates unpleasant aesthetics. Today, sneaker culture is having an ‘ugly-pretty’ moment as chunky silhouettes and dad shoes are all the rage. It’s having such displeasing designs and styles that some sneakers have become the hottest items in all of the retail business. Among the brands who are adhering to this trend is Puma, who recently released their Thunder Electric sneakers.

Puma has been having quite a big moment lately. They’re gaining a lot of attention through their new releases and the various collaborations with A-list celebrities. The debut of their Thunder Electric sneakers last June 21, 2018, also created a lot of buzz. The shoes are now some of the most photographed and liked sneakers on social media. Each pair costs about $150.

Pros

Puma’s Thunder Electric sneakers are actually quite a feast for the eyes. The harmonious mix of colors and textiles upon a chunky silhouette creates a sort of mirage of artistic footwear. Bombastic colorways make them even more exciting, particularly the more feminine ones that are incorporated with shimmering metallics and sweet-looking pastels. Although these trainers are supposed to be the German sportswear brand’s own “dad shoes,” they’re far from the dated stereotypical look upon which the trend originated from.

Cons

These shoes were made completely for fashion’s sake and it shows. While they might be marketed as sports shoes, they’re far from the type that is suitable for such. Their bulky silhouettes are bound to imbalance the wearer while partaking in strenuous activities. Furthermore, these shoes aren’t light enough to be worn while running or jogging. They’re simply to be appreciated for their aesthetics, which is more than enough.
