Billy Reid is one of many staple menswear designers who are slowly venturing into womenswear. In fact, for his spring 2019 show, held in his home state of Alabama in celebration of his 20th year as a solo designer, this American designer trotted out a series of womenswear looks that were just as show-stopping has his menswear offering. This season, Reid was designer for two, a man and a woman, both of which had the same fearless and American style. Take the woman, for example, was spotted in the show in a billowy and feathery caftan, inspired by the imagery of Native Americans, whose outfit looked like a hybrid of traditional craftsmanship and modern luxury. Other looks had the women in relaxed cotton pieces grown locally within the Southern states, as did the men. And speaking of men, boy did they look spiffy in their softly-tailored separates and suits, casual denim and cashmere pieces, and a few touches of athleisure in between. At this show, a celebration of two decades of true-blue American fashion, Billy Reid carved out a new identity for his brand. And this is one to look out for in the coming seasons!
