If there’s one designer who’s poised to take the helms of caretaking classic Americana from the likes Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger, it’s Alexander Wang. Granted the latter is on a whole different market from the two retail giants, all three are similar in invoking a patriotic spirit with their clothes. For Fall 2018, Wang menswear offers a celebration of American fashion, particularly the extremely masculine college frat boy look. Oversized sweaters, varsity jackets, and knitted hoodies—all fit for a twenty-something jock that can’t find his perfect wardrobe from the more feminized menswear of Gucci and Celine. And while this dominating look is almost representative of the toxic masculinity being challenged today, it can’t be denied that these clothes still have a strong market.
