Alexis Mabille is a French designer through and through. His collections often reflect what many courtiers, both past and present, want to embody as the French woman (particularly the Parisienne): sensual and powerful. Both words aptly describe his Fall 2018 offering, which is both parts an ode to bourgeois dressing and a subtle dig at streetwear sensibilities. The billowy silk dresses, the precisely-cut jackets, and everything in between were distinctly French in the most classic and otherwise stereotypical way. And while Paris continues to be the world’s center for fashion, one might question if Mabille’s ideas are necessary. Are they?
