Eroticism is rarely a word associated with Simone Rocha. The British designer is known for her pouf-silhouettes that tend to dominate the body and evoke an innocent appeal rather than an erotic allure. But in her Fall 2019 show during London Fashion Week, she emphasized that eroticism is something is truly entrenched within the female identity. and that no matter what one is wearing, she can still evoke that kind of seduction. Thus came a parade of semi-translucent frocks that showed more than one would ever expect in a Simone Rocha runway. The delicacy of tulle and chiffon did little to hide the female form, and arguably, the pouf silhouettes even helped in highlighting them in plain sight. As this was in the context of erotica, it wasn’t a surprise that the likes of Chloë Sevigny and Lily Cole made appearances on the runway, and that their confident swagger only magnified the seductive narrative behind this romantic collection. Although as beautiful as ever, will this be a signal that Rocha might, if not now maybe one day, evolve her look to a more mature audience? Only time can tell!
