Elegant angles, precise cutting, sharp lines, and fine finishes. These were what Phuong My highlighted with her latest collection. It was a couture-like offering that centered on giving eveningwear, oftentimes a rather dated market, a more modern and contemporary spin. Her Fall 2019 show attempted that, but in our opinion, she only achieved as much. We can’t deny the toned-down opulence and the quality in the construction of such a selection, but we also can’t get past how many of them look rather old, some even bore overused styles. In fact, had she chosen a more palatable palette and finer fabrications, we’d initially think this was an Armani Prive show than a Phuong My one. There’s simply not enough individuality and originality thrown into the mix here. Here’s to hoping Phuong My incorporates them better next season!
