Once the seasons of leisure, namely resort 2019 and spring/summer 2019, were over, Phillip Lim returns to his signature sense of pragmatic fashions for Pre-Fall 2019. This season, his tailoring is as fine and exquisite as ever, but instead of clinging to the body, the clothes are wider, freer, and gives women all the agency to move about freely. Silhouettes are a tad oversized, skirts billow farther from the body, and the color palette of neutrals with a soft pastel pink and lilac checks wasn’t as complicated as past schemes. Unsurprisingly, despite such functional fashions, there was no scarcity of femininity in this collection. Delicate laces dresses and crocheted features were added to evoke a sense of classic delicacy that would otherwise make such looks masculine. The Jean Cocteau-inspired surreal prints also added a romantic touch to what would have been an exclusively minimal collection. All in all, this was a solid offering from a severely underrated designer. But maybe it’s with this low profile that he’s able to create such desirable clothing!
