How does one look cool and mysterious? With a bucket hat, of course! Pierpaolo Piccioli offered a parade of bucket-hatted young men for his spring 2019 menswear collection for the house of Valentino. Each was a stand-out on its own, with some matching the outfits while others were intentionally off-setting. With how the male models walked the runway, it seemed that those hats were worn to evoke a sense of haughty coolness, but was contrasted heavily by the colorful and youthful ensembles. This collection was a feast for the eyes, with loads of colors, prints, and patterns that dominated the runway. Some were unapologetically gaudy with their mismatching and floral and camouflage prints, while others were comparatively more sophisticated, particularly the monochromatic looks. Surprisingly, this was the least cohesive offering Piccioli ever did for the decades-old label. And if he thinks the bucket hats helped in providing a sense of consistency, he might have over-thought that. Nevertheless, it was an interesting offering that showed many promising pieces.
