Timepieces that give a hint of vintage are very popular among enthusiasts nowadays. Many brands feed into that desire by reissuing older models and releasing new ones that have been inspired by styles prevalent in decades’ past. Omega is not one to deviate from the trend, but what makes it exceptional is its capability to really pin down what consumers long for. That, and without sacrificing the basic elements that make a collection identifiable.

Such is the case for its best-selling Seamaster. First issued in the late 1940s, it has seen many updates through the years, while still adhering to original style codes. The Omega O21230412003001 Seamaster was based on the Seamaster 300, a model that has remained largely under the radar for decades. But it is also very much a watch of this century, running with an updated movement and with features that are better than ever.
Specifications:

- Case thickness: 13mm

Pros
This Seamaster is utterly captivating—the blue is very rich and elegant, and even manages to bring out the beauty of the indices and hands. That is a feat, considering that the color blue isn’t as versatile as black as far as watches go, but in the Omega Seamaster, we would even dare say that it is more striking than its black counterpart. The dial’s design is worth noting as Omega has achieved a balanced appearance, with the hands and the dotted markers just of the right size. The same can be said for the text which blends well with everything else as well as the date that was changed from white to black. The case and the bracelet are both made out of silver stainless steel, which adds even more elegance to the watch. You do not have to be a scuba diver to enjoy the Seamaster, but should you want a new hobby or are looking for a watch you can take diving, the Seamaster will be a reliable companion for its water resistance rating of 300 meters. Otherwise, it is quite a chameleon, able to look sleek and appropriate in both dressier and casual occasions.
Cons
We wouldn’t say that these are deal breakers as this Seamaster would still be a desirable watch in spite of the drawbacks. But if we’d have to pick it apart, Omega’s choice to put synthetic sapphire crystal makes us wonder. The black version has the genuine sapphire crystal without even jacking the price. The lume on the dial is satisfactory, but does not seem at par with other Omegas. Wearers could also benefit from a larger crown.
