Remember the 90s heyday of Calvin Klein and Versace? When men, in all their Adonis-like glory, fronted the biggest ad campaigns in the fashion world? Jacquemus does, and for his Spring 2019 Menswear collection, his debut on the category, he’s channeling those god-like figures. He’s introducing a new kind of man in town, “Le Gadjo,” who’s basically a Mediterranean hunk who wears open shirts, floral prints, skin-tight swimwear, and is unapologetic about it all. He knows his body looks amazing and has no problem showing it off in some of the highest of quality clothing money can buy. This season, the colors are as bright as the Marseilles sun that shone on the show’s beach runway. Amidst a few neutrals were eye-catching pops of lemon yellow, military green, crimson red, and different shades of blue. The tailoring here was soft and relaxed, easy for these men to take off to show off what God so generously gave them. And against a bevy of androgyny happening on other runways, this was a relatively refreshing sight to see.
