Michael Jordan, without a doubt, revolutionized basketball, and his worldwide influence—still alive and kicking today—is made possible, among others, by the many highly-coveted sneaker models inspired by him and his legendary era playing ball. With MJ’s vast reach, he was able to redefine fashion sprinkled with basketball flavor, stimulate the creation of an urban, sports-induced youth culture, and push a whole new market potential for sneakers inspired by, or designed and collaborated with famous personalities. Spot-on to its name, the Nike Air Jordan 1 High OG is the true original—the sneakers that started it all.

Did you know that the Nike Air Jordan I, with its black and red colorway, was the first pair of sneakers with multiple colors to be worn in the NBA? Yes, and along with this pioneering act, was a penalty of $5,000 fine each time a player violated the league’s uniform policy. This rule-breaking history was the main inspiration of the Air Jordan line, including the Air Jordan 1 High OG and Retro line (that is mass-available today), which boast multiple colorways to cater so much more sneaker enthusiasts from around the world.

Pros

Getting the Nike Air Jordan 1 High OG means bringing a piece of history into your shoe collection and ensemble. Tracing its roots to nothing but the champ, the Air Jordan 1 High OG was first released in 1985 but abruptly ended two years after due to MJ’s foot injury.

With its commanding high-top silhouette, the Retro models have the toe box and both sides covered with soft leather that hug the feet. These sneakers come with rubber standard outsole. The Nike swoosh and “Air Jordan” wing logo are visible on the mid and top sides. There are also branding on the tongue made from nylon, as well as on the insole that is comfy as a cotton.

Cons

Even if the Nike Air Jordan 1 High OG started with a reputation for being unique, many find that the release of many Retro colorway variations and sheer volume over the years made it lose its spark. While it’s made from soft leather, this model can still feel a bit stiff when worn for long periods of time. But as far as being stylish and fresh go, the Air Jordan 1 High OG gets it right.
