Fendi Baguette Bag Review
Description
Whenever you think of 90’s handbags, the only thing that ever really comes to mind is the Fendi Baguette Bag. Designed by Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi back in 1997, it was an homage to the way Parisians nestle the baton-esque loaf under their arms. Somehow, after almost 30 years, the 90’s icon has found its way back into our arms once more but this time with a newer look and seemingly fresher approach.

The Baguette bag has gone through a good number of iterations since its launch, and for 2019, its classic silhouette was made boxier and more structured. Made in Italy, the signature FF motif has been updated with an embossed texture on lambskin leather. The FF fastening hardware has been contoured to have a shimmery, brushed look and its magnetic button clasp opens to a lining with a zip pocket. One detail that wasn’t totally necessary though was the addition of the long, wide shoulder strap. Whilst it is always nice to have the option to carry a bag multiple ways, wearing the Baguette cross body almost defeats the purpose of its being called the Baguette in the first place. Yes, the shape is still the same and elongating the strap allows for easy access, but it almost does away with the bag’s identity and places it in line with all the other cross body bags in the market.

Even so, it still makes for a simple but versatile bag that will remain chic even after the trend of shoulder bags have passed.
