Balenciaga Souvenir Bag Review
Demna Gvasalia, Balenciaga’s creative director, is well-known for his talent in seeking inspiration from the mundane and for his tongue-in-cheek designs, such as creating leather versions of inexpensive shopping totes to branding former campaign logos. One of his latest feats is the Balenciaga Souvenir bag, a cross between a bum bag and a souvenir charm bracelet which, as campy as it sounds, turned out to be quite the versatile piece.

Charms are heavy and make a lot of noise

Debuted at Balenciaga’s Spring/Summer 2018 show, the Souvenir belt bag comes in a jacquard logo fabric that can either be made of velvet or canvas, complemented by leather details and backing. Crafted in Italy, it features the a gold embossed Balenciaga logo on the leather piping, a front zip pocket, and the main attraction: an adjustable strap with souvenir charms.

The Souvenir bag is the brand’s take on touristy knick knacks found while traveling abroad. Each variation of the simple bag comes with a set of Paris themed charms strung along a gold-finish chain strap, which of course, includes Paris’ most notable landmark, the Eiffel tower. The charms definitely add to the weight of the bag and chime as the wearer moves around, but they do make for a quirky belt bag strap.

There are many ways the bag can be worn. Aside from wrapping it around your waist, adjust the buckle on the leather strap to easily wear it as a shoulder bag or a fitted cross body. With its exterior zip pocket and interior slip pocket, it’s perfect for any tourist or fashionista on the go who only wishes to pack the essentials.
