An eclectic way of life

Noor Fares Jewelry Designer

Fares grew up in somehow an eclectic environment, with her mom influencing her with her eccentricity in fashion and art, even to the point of wearing a different shoe in each foot. Aside from her mother, other strong women around her, although they have quite different tastes and ways of expression, inspired her to not be afraid of trying out things when it comes to style. Fares’ early interest in jewelry has been supported by her grandmother’s love for jewelry as well, but mostly eccentric ones. The passion of her grandma in layering pieces even though it wasn’t the trend that time formed her mindset about doing what she wants even without following what majority of people are doing. But a lot of practical and technical lessons about designing and product creation was taught to Fares by one of her aunts who worked as an RTW designer, which definitely helped her set off into a jewelry-making career.

Because of her fascination and belief in the power of gemstones, Fares enrolled at the Gemological Institute of America located in London. Just after a few years of full-on designing, enrolled again to get a master’s degree at Central Saint Martins. From then on she has committed to a life of jewelry-design and establishing her eponymous brand. She put her own personal taste in the brand’s collections—incorporating her love for layering of jewelry and her fascination with haute-bohemian fashion. Her closet is a mixture of high-end and mid-range, glam and causal, and a burst of colors and textures.

A mixture of prehistoric and contemporary inspirations

Nore Fares Jewelry

With the inclination of its founder to anything eccentric, Noor Fares became a brand known for captivating mixture of prehistoric symbols, like the Sri Yantra and Flower of Life of the Mayan and Egyptian civilizations incorporated in its Akasha (Sanskrit for sky) collection. The sacred patterns become part of the jewelry pieces, translating them into culturally rich chokers, earrings, pendants, and so much more. An often seen mark in the brand’s jewelry is the evil eye, which is added to the pieces because of the Middle Eastern belief that it provides protection.

Aside from history, Fares draws inspiration from her Lebanese roots and her love for travelling—both reflecting the contemporary touch that she adds to the brand’s pieces as well. While she wants the pieces to have the contemporary look, they have to appear timeless as well, not some jewelry that would just fade after a few seasons.

Collections laden with meaning

The label’s Touch Wood collection, its first, was inspired by a tradition in the Middle East: getting luck by knocking on wood. The founder of the label herself called up Harrods to convince them to give the brand a chance to showcase its pieces. And the store made the right decision to allow that, as immediately, the Fly Me to the Moon range became popular because of the Wings earrings in that collection. Suddenly, fashionistas and jewelry lovers are on the lookout for new Noor Fares jewelry. The collection is a bit sentimental for the designer, as it was a reminder of her father’s fascination with a Frank Sinatra song, and it was also the line that put the brand on the map.

The designer ensures that she is fully engaged in the jewelry-making process, and not just some designer that lets the maker do his/her own thing. She learns how each piece is made and enjoy the craftsmanship that goes into each jewelry, while she bonds with the different Italian artisans and craftsmen as they make the pieces.  The latest collection of the brand full commits to its name, Geometry 101, as it is filled with different shapes that is beautifully presented in a graphic manner. The lines were kept clean, the proportion appropriate, and of course, the pieces were added with a dash of sacred talismans to complete each jewelry.

Currently, Noor Fares can be found in the biggest retail shops in major cities around the world, including Liberty and Dover Street Market, as well as online shopping sites like Matches Fashion, Net-a-Porter, and Bergdorf Goodman.
