How it all began

Sara Beltrán was a former stylist’s assistant in New York, but her career took a turn when the photographer she was working with, the legendary Bruce Weber, took notice of the necklace she was wearing. Weber then asked Sara to create more pieces like her wooden necklace—100 more—plus additional bracelets and charms to match his clothing line. Sara did just that, and later on, she found herself wanting to learn more about jewelry making, not just with wood, but with metals.

Using the richness of her background, including her Mexican upbringing, Sara started to turn her hobby of making seashell necklaces into a real business. Her creativity is highly powered by her love of the ocean and the sea, added with her adoration for travels. Her sea and beach-themed designs immediately gained traction in the jewelry market, captivating co-sea lovers and those with the same boho-chic style. Soon, Dezso by Sara Beltrán has a cult following from various continents all over the world, reinforcing its expansion and the eventual opening of a design studio in Jaipur, India.

What Deszo is all about

Dezso by Sara Beltrán Jewelry

Artisanal craftsmanship is at the core of Deszo and expressed in the way its pieces are created and presented. Traditional techniques are used to make every jewelry, handmade by artisans using hand-picked precious and semi-precious materials by the founder herself. Aside from thinking of new designs for the brand’s collections, Sara is also always on the lookout for materials whenever she travels. Hence, pieces from Deszo oftentimes carry design features from different beaches its founder visits, plus gorgeous stones that she picked, including the raw-looking polki diamonds and blue kyanite mineral. But in all of these processes, there’s always a consideration of the ocean, and how it will be manifested in the details of the pieces.

Deszo is a brand that’s fully committed to its ocean theme, thanks to its founder’s great love for the ocean. You’ll see shark teeth, shark fins, as well as stones that were cut to look like them in the jewelry pieces of the brand. Other materials from the sea added to the pieces include coral fragments and blowfish spines, elements that you wouldn’t usually see in jewelry, but Deszo is able to pull off delicately and beautifully.

You’ll never miss to see Dezso in various high-end fashion and lifestyle magazines today, including ELLE, Harper’s Bazaar, and W Magazine. It has charmed its way up to success, using pieces that carry elements that have been plucked straight from the beach. Deszo’s celebration of the beauty of nature, specifically of the ocean, combined with love for jewelry and 18k gold, captured the attention of people all over the world.

While the brand is thriving on its jewelry quest, its founder envisions expansion to other lines in the future. Sara has ventured recently into furniture design—in fact, she sold her very first chair in Japan. Currently, plans of creating a fragrance line for the brand is on the pipeline, as well as a candle line that will surely embody the grace and beauty of the Deszo brand.
