Articles on Brandon Maxwell
The clothes you wear is as much a reflection of yourself as the sentiments and themes beyond you. Women fashion is constantly evolving. Throughout the years, every piece that has been created and worn conjured meaning. For instance, there were laws banning women from wearing trousers, making pivotal moments in history once they were removed, heels are no longer just an item that women wear to add height or feel confident, they have also been worn by men to show support to women, and so forth. Reimagining women fashion to cater to changing needs and wants of women and the society they live in is what makes Brandon Maxwell a household name.
Being inspired by life around
The brand was a creation of Brandon Maxwell who was born in Longview Texas where he was surrounded by “immaculately dressed women”. Having spent most of his time in a Longview boutique where his grandmother used to work, inspiration was everywhere.
Brandon soaked in the different styles and cuts, ending up with him putting together outfits and photographing his friends. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Photo Communications from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas. And by 23, he was ready to work in New York.
Mixing fashion with photography
Loving both worlds, Brandon started out as a stylist when he began to assist Deborah Afshani in 2009 and Nicola Formichetti in 2010. It was his meeting with Lady Gaga that was significant because since 2012, he has been the fashion director of a world-wide famous musician known for her creative looks and imaginative productions.
Aside for styling, Brandon has also been active in magazines. With numerous editorials and campaigns in the bag from online to print, from Harper’s Bazaar and Teen Vogue to Barneys New York and Uniqlo.
“Relaxed glamour” taking center stage
In 2015, the brand Brandon Maxwell was born. A luxury brand that wants women to feel “beautiful, sophisticated and powerful,” through pieces born out of fine details, innovative materials, and elegant cuts that women can comfortably wear from work to party, from dusk till dawn.
Looking at the brand’s latest Fall Winter 2018/2019 collection, one notices the structured but still relaxed fit. Every piece oozes with glamour and authority. Staying true to its philosophy, wearing a Brandon Maxwell ensures that women are proud of their femininity and power, transforming them not only on the outside but also, and more importantly, from the inside.
All Brandon Maxwell pieces are carefully made from selected materials and produced entirely in New York. Emphasizing women’s desires and sensibilities, the brand develops close relationships with its clientele because of its hands-on approach, from the sketches and fitting, all the way to alterations until the perfect fit.
Turning heads of personalities and industry alike
Because the brand strives to provide what women actually want and need, it’s no wonder that many known personalities have worn Brandon Maxwell. Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, Reese Witherspoon, Lady Gaga and Uma Thurman, are some of the big weights that have fashioned the label.
To date, Brandon Maxwell has received numerous awards. In 2016, it was chosen for the Fashion Group International Rising Star Award for Womenswear, as well as the CFDA Swarovski Award for Womenswear. In the same year, Brandon Maxwell was also named a LVMH finalist.
Marrying sleek, chic and twists to create stunning pieces that some of the most influential people wear is as exciting as how quick the demand for women’s fashion is. The success of Brandon Maxwell can be hinged on two things: One is the creative genius that Brandon, himself is, and how he humbly acknowledges the work of everyone who makes the brand possible (see the end of this clip). And second is the true inspiration that is the life of the brand, constantly pushing for its desire not just to please existing and potential clients but also actually make them look and feel powerful, comfortable and glamorous—all at the same time.
