The prominence of athleisurewear has given way to sporty clothing that also exude glamour. And there are plenty to choose from, with high end brands also dipping into the trend. Categorized as a sportswear manufacturer since time immemorial, Nike takes the lead and puts the standard a notch even higher. In 2017, the Swoosh has teamed up with Austrian company Swarovski to create an ambitious update on the Nike Air Max 97.

The Air Max 97 is impressive ever since the beginning. When the originally silver sneakers were introduced decades ago, it left buyers in awe for its innovative lacing system and cushioning as well as 360-degree reflectivity and its shimmer, which was also present in succeeding models and can be proven even in low light. With Nike approaching Swarovski, it is looking to experiment on more materials and build on the already established reputation of the Air Max 97. The American shoemaking giant was particularly intrigued by Swarovski’s crystal fabric, which is beautiful in both its shiny and rough parts. The Nike Air Max 97 LX “Swarovski” Crystals were soon launched, originally in two colorways which later became three with the gray option, and left fans of the Air Max 97 with a plush albeit pricey option for the popular silhouette.
Pros
The crystals are the standouts with this model, as expected. Fans of the silhouette did enjoy the elegant feeling of having Swarovski crystals on their footwear. The glittery part on the upper is especially noted but with a beauty that still does not go overboard. The options available so far are limited to neutrals but they all contribute to the classiness of the sneakers. As with previous Air Max 97s, the shimmer did not get in the way of comfort, with most users’ feet feeling snug in the Swarovski update. These were also noted for their premium quality, only befitting of a premium-priced pair.
Cons
As already anticipated, the inclusion of the crystal fabric led to the price being higher in comparison to other available models of the Air Max 97. While the Crystal Air Max 97s are comfortable, it is recommended to get a size bigger to give the feet more room to breathe.
