The military, whichever country they may be, has their own time and therefore needs their timepieces. Through the years, military watches has grown from a simple tool for the army to a luxurious piece of machinery. Armed with innovative functions yet classic and refined designs, a military watch has become quite a model for the horology business to reinvent, which the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer Zenith just did with their new Pilot Cronometro Tipo CP-2 Flyback watch.

Although Zenith debuted the new model back in January 2018 for SIHH, the Pilot Cronometro Tipo CP-2 Flyback was released a month later in February. Today, it remains to be one of the most talked about watches to have come from the Swiss luxury label, both for its vintage design yet exciting new innovations. The watch is also among their more affordable pieces, with a retail price of only $7,600 a piece.

Pros
This new model stays true to the foundations it’s built on: military aviation. From the El Primero Flyback Chronograph movement to the absence of a date window, the Pilot Cronometro Tipo CP-2 Flyback watch exemplifies the best of horology for the military. Many enthusiasts who were lucky enough to see and even wear the new watch during SIHH 2018 also noted that the watch was comfortable and light, despite its beefy mechanisms and that it’s still at 43mm in diameter.
Cons
Vintage style is usually better appreciated if it’s enthused with a modern touch, no matter how little. Zenith’s Pilot Cronometro Tipo CP-2 Flyback model, however, doesn’t necessarily have such on its surface. It can be argued that the model, released in 2018, does not offer any new significance in terms of design. As luxurious as classic vintage styles are, this particular watch may not capture the eyes of younger clients and enthusiasts, especially those who are seeking newer and more modern timepieces.
