She may not look like it, but Vivienne Westwood was actually the pioneer of sustainable fashions before the likes of Stella McCartney and Eileen Fisher came on the scene. Here shredded punk image and cool deconstructed pieces may have conveyed the opposite, but the grand dame of fashion herself is an environment-friendly designer. For spring 2019, she continues this mission by bringing forth cool and youthful looks all made out of sustainable materials. All her cotton and linen, which were cut into tailored separates, draped blousons, and easy-to-wear trousers, were organic. The floral jacquards that were made into off-the-shoulder dresses were manufactured by a sustainable organization that helps fight back reforestation in various areas across the globe. Despite the chaos and deconstructions that her styles conveyed, these clothes were actually doing more good to the Earth than those of the more sophisticated kind. This is the irony that Vivienne Westwood has built her empire on, and it’s one that she’ll continue to play with until the planet is safe from harm.
