If you have a front row with the likes of Lupita Nyong’o, Bradley Cooper, and Uma Thurman, then you’re expected to put on a grand show. And that’s exactly what Donatella Versace did in New York City for the house’s Pre-Fall 2019 show. Since Spring 2018, the iconic designer has been going through the label’s most beloved archives to offer for today’s generation. This didn’t stop for pre-fall, as it was evident that a lot of pieces were inspired by Versace’s most iconic runway and red carpet moments. One such moment was that notorious safety-pin dress worn by Elizabeth Hurley in the 1990s, made this year into an asymmetric cocktail dress complete with the same golden pins. Supermodel Amber Valletta closed the show with a familiar silhouette—that of the baring palm-tree printed dress Jennifer Lopez famously wore on the red carpet back in the early 2000s. This time, the dress was printed with multi-color hearts, a nod to artist Jim Dine who was one of the late Gianni Versace’s favorites. This show was undoubtedly a celebration of Versace as all eyes are on the Italian mega-brand. It’s exciting to see what they’ll do next.
