Vacheron Constantin occupies a special place in horology. Rather than be ostentatious with its display, it prefers pure designs that mask the complicated mechanisms underneath. Among the oldest luxury watch brands there are, Vacheron Constantin leaves no doubt about its expertise. Instead of unleashing its splendor in an instant, it slowly reveals the marvels of the centuries-old tradition, a mark of a true master. The Patrimony series is a modern-looking collection by the company’s standards, but takes inspiration in the models made in the 1950s. It was released in celebration of the watchmaker’s long history which has already entered its third century.

The Patrimony 85180 is similar to past and subsequent releases in that it has kept the Vacheron Constantin tradition of simplicity yet it beats with an impressive in-house caliber. It lets you into its secret through the sapphire crystal caseback while maintaining a clean look on the dial.

Pros
The Patrimony 8150 successfully marries modern motif with proportions traditional to a dress watch. The 40mm case, for instance, is the company’s attempt to make the watch appeal to modern preferences while making it thin, even with an in-house complication and an automatic winding system encased. The dial is shaped like a dome and the straps come with enough space so it isn’t completely attached to the dial, which doesn’t make the watch feel foreign to the wrist. Owing to its thinness, the watch can easily fit under the sleeve of your formal attire. As is with the case of other Vacheron Constantin pieces, the Patrimony 8150 adheres to the high standards of its Geneva seal, which the uninitiated won’t automatically assume because of its conservative appearance.
Cons
By the looks of it, the Patrimony 8150 is a classic watch, although it can feel big when compared to other dress watches. Apart from the oversized dial potentially becoming bothersome, the watch can be underwhelming. It is undoubtedly up to the level of other Vacheron Constantin watches, but if you’re looking for pizzazz, it’s better to search somewhere else.
