One thing the fashion industry can’t deny about sportswear is its appreciation of color. Since the market doesn’t necessarily allow designers to experiment with silhouettes and fabrications, the only thing they can really work is to provide an exciting palette to paint their hoodies and sweatshirts with. This is what ultimately led to Virgil Abloh‘s colorful rainbow extravaganza during his debut Spring 2019 menswear show for Louis Vuitton. But during the same season, another label expertly did color for sporty menswear as well: Unravel. For the label’s spring 2019 menswear collection, Ben Taverniti was fearless with hues on athletic men’s garments. The vivid red-orange on monochromatic tracksuits and hooded jackets was electric. The sky blue-and-black color combo on a few separates, on the other hand, was eye-catching. This season, he also played with silhouette with the help of various chords, allowing the wearer to change a pair of jogging pants into scrunched up shorts. This was a millennial offering through and through, and it won’t be surprising to see most of the pieces all over social media by next summer.
