When it comes to quirky fashions, no one can do them quite like Tsumori Chisato. Her unabashed childlike taste is such a refresher for the industry, especially now that the big trend is going back to more refined, mature, and traditional tailoring. Her Fall 2019 line hits the spot for those who want to look cute and camp without looking overly ridiculous. But in all honesty, we’re sort of 50-50 with this lot. Though we can’t deny her adorable eye for design and quality construction, we do wish she’d tone it down a bit more. It’s evident that, compared to her Pre-Fall 2019 collection, this was already toned-down, but in order to get the attention of women with higher and more discriminatory tastes, she’ll have to do better than that. She can start by taking away those garish tights-like pants—they do nothing to elevate the looks. The drawn-on denim might have been novel a few seasons back, but now, it just seemed tired and over. In our opinion, the best piece here was the trompe l’oeil dress in cream and highlighter pink. Had she worked off of those types of styles, this would have been a better hit!
