After a two-year partnership with Gigi Hadid reached its conclusion earlier this year, Tommy Hilfiger is still in the search of younger fashion icons to team up with as an attempt to appeal to a new generation of consumers. The said collaboration has resulted in fashion shows in no less than the Big Four capitals, and was indeed memorable during its run for the garments that explored themes beyond street and rock and roll. Besides Hadid, the label has previously worked with rising models Hailey Baldwin and Winnie Harlow. Lewis Hamilton was tapped to become the brand’s ambassador as well, and has had a successful show in Shanghai just recently. “I love to collaborate with people who are passionate about making their dreams a reality and who inspire the next generation to do the same,” says Tommy Hilfiger. Zendaya was an easy choice as she was a favorite at the red carpet and influential in her style.
Zendaya has inspired legions of fans and others to be daring in their outfits while also being comfortable in them. With the help of celebrity stylist and America’s Next Top Model judge Law Roach, she has found a way to express herself through fashion and revel in its capability to empower. The actress-slash-singer already had major experience in beauty and fashion as a model for CoverGirl and Dolce & Gabbana. Even more impressive is the fact that she had the opportunity to flex her designing chops over at Boohoo and her own label, Daya by Zendaya. The latter did not have a happy ending, with Zendaya letting go due to problems with the company managing the brand, but that did not affect her status as a fashion icon one bit.
Her previous experience only makes it fitting that her title as the brand ambassador, which entails that the actress-slash-singer take the forefront in the label’s campaign for Spring 2019, also comes with a deal to produce a capsule collection. Like previous models before her, Zendaya will be designing pieces alongside Tommy Hilfiger himself, celebrating the Americana aesthetic the brand is best known for but also individuality, self-expression, and empowerment, all of which Zendaya embody so well in her bold choices in fashion. This gives fans more to look forward to than just her upcoming movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming. As of the moment, though, the details remain scant. Besides revealing that the result of the partnership will be unveiled by February next year, and that the pieces can be copped through a see-now-buy-now runway show, the particulars were kept under wraps.
What we can assume though, based at least on the Instagram tease from the brand, is that it will ride the retro vibe, particularly of the ‘60s. The collection will be distinctly Zendaya as well. Hilfiger says, “Our capsule collection will fuse her eclectic style with the Americana spirit of our brand.” In previous collaborations, Tommy Hilfiger has given the ladies as much freedom to express their ideas, and the same could be said for the future collection. The designer will be following the direction of Zendaya, a move they have taken before with other ambassadors that has helped further develop the brand.
