There are some pieces in the luxury business that actually started out in the military. There’s the trench coat, the tailored-jacket, and slacks, just to name a few. For footwear, there are combat boots. The industrial pair has not only become a fashion staple but an overall favorite due to the comfort and warmth they bring to the wearer. A lot of designers themselves have incorporated combat boots into their luxury lines, and the latest one to so is Virgil Abloh. In collaboration with Timberland, Abloh’s premier fashion brand Off-White offers a new line of 6” boots.

Virgil Abloh and his brand Off-White are having their biggest fashion moment right now, with countless celebrities wearing their clothes and a myriad of other brands wanting to collaborate with them. One of Abloh’s most recent collaborative ventures is with American outerwear manufacturer Timberland, known for their high-quality winter combat boots. The designer released his own line of such las December 20, 2017, and has since been worn by the likes of Justin Bieber and Kendall Jenner. Each pair costs $745.

Pros

Virgil Abloh turned the normally-practical and pragmatic garment into high fashion by opting to make them into fine velvet than the usual leather or suede. Enthusing the boots with a more luxurious material gave them a more elegant and sophisticated look, albeit still practical and warm during cold weather. Apart from the usual black and chestnut-brown iterations, the collaborative shoes are also offered in vivid neon green and orange. These hues take the high fashion factor up a notch and are definitely eye-catching when worn on the street.

Cons

Combats boots are usually worn during and because of extreme weather condition, which is why they’re usually designed to be durable. But with these specific boots’ fabrication in velvet, which is more of an evening wear material than for every day, their durability may not be as strong. Furthermore, velvet is also known to be difficult to wash and require intricate processes to properly maintain such pieces without damaging them.
