Craft is rarely pushed to the forefront at the ready-to-wear shows. These days, it’s all about the bling of streetwear or the sexiness of sportswear. An old-school type of elegance is relegated to established houses who have their own haute couture origins. Yet, against the flurry of new and exciting streetwear fanatic labels at New York Fashion Week, The Row presented that type of sophistication for their spring 2019 collection. Look upon look of elegantly long and lean silhouettes made up Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen seasonal offering, bearing in mind a refined woman as their target muse. Although a tad oversized (in line with contemporary shapes), the tailoring here was exquisite, harkening back to the glory days of minimalism of Phoebe Philo‘s Celine. Dresses were also softly-draped to the body as if to give the woman all the agency to show off her power. From being mere celebrity designers, this collection proves that the Olsen twins have grown up to be tastemakers in their own rights.
