It’s now awards season! And this means everyone is glued to their screens to catch what their favorite stars will wear on the red carpet. All eyes are peeled to catch who will give the most iconic moments this season. This year started interestingly with the Golden Globes, as traditional ballgown silhouettes reigned supreme among the ladies, while the men had a little bit more fun than usual. And with the presence of such fearless fashion superstars like Lady Gaga and Nicole Kidman, as well as some show-stopping neophytes like Timothée Chalamet and Gemma Chan, this is bound to be an impressive red carpet season indeed!

And wouldn’t you know it, the second awards ceremony didn’t disappoint! The Critics’ Choice Awards is rarely the event that has A-listers to dressing to the nines. They usually focus all their fashionable strength for the likes of the Grammy Awards and the Oscars. But this year is different! The 2019 ceremony saw some of the most unique and outrageous outfits ever worn on any red carpet. There were stark color-blocking, galaxy prints, big bows, and more that one would have never seen in this event before. In essence, here is a rundown on the most unique looks at the Critics’ Choice Awards 2019.

Nicole Kidman in Armani Privé haute couture

Nicole Kidman is a statuesque beauty that can rock pretty much any outfit. She proved this by donning an Armani Privé haute couture dress from the label’s Fall 2018 collection. The strapless black-and-white ensemble had an interesting shape to it—a vase-like quality that, when worn by the wrong woman, can look disastrously unflattering. Fortunately, Kidman’s imposing 5’11” frame fared well with the dress’s silhouette. Although her hair could have been better, there’s no denying she worked that haute couture piece like a charm!

Timothée Chalamet in Alexander McQueen

It seems that every opportunity they get, Hollywood’s younger and newer stars are redefining what it means to dress up for a red carpet event. At the Golden Globes, Timothée Chalamet already turned heads with his polarizing (but interesting) harnessed Louis Vuitton ensemble. For the Critics’ Choice Awards, he went with something a bit easier to define, but still bent the rules on red carpet dressing. In an eye-popping paint-swooshed suit by Alexander McQueen.  While the colorful and zany tailoring was sort of expected from the “Call Me by Your Name” star, it was the stark-white sneakers that made his look all the more noteworthy. Designers these days have been combining sophisticated tailoring with sport streetwear sensibilities, and Chalamet manifested such a look perfectly.

Indya Moore in Louis Vuitton

Indya Moore is an up-and-coming transgender actress who starred in the latest FX hit series, “Pose.” This awards season, she’s making her mark by attending several of the high profile events in all of Hollywood, including the Critics’ Choice Awards, where she wore a fascinating ecru ensemble from Louis Vuitton. The dress itself, full of vertical pleating, was chic in of itself, but rather difficult to decipher.  With so much fabric manipulation, it wasn’t clear what the dress’s real shape and silhouette are. But this didn’t stop Moore from working it like an ancient Grecian queen, complete with a gilded chain necklace to accent the look without it looking overwhelming. With such ease, she just put herself on the Hollywood fashion map for years to come.

Moore’s “Pose” co-star, Billy Porter, has also been stealing the spotlight this awards season. Who could forget his show-stopping caped suit at the Golden Globes, where he took over the red carpet with all his swaying and posing. For this night, he stole the show once more in a custom-made Rinat Brodach suit. For Porter, the category is satin, shimmering against the camera lights that captured his silky ensemble. His color palette was also outstanding, from the creamy off-white collared-shirt down to the rich dark chocolate suit and apricot orange sash at his waist. The big bow was just the right amount of extra that didn’t seem too much at all.

Gemma Chan in Jason Wu

Gemma Chan knows how to stand out without all the unnecessary bells and whistles. She’s that rare breed of cinematic beauty that can rock any outfit and end up looking as elegant and as pristine as ever. At the Critics Choice Awards, she stood out against a bevy of black-and-white dresses and suits with her floral off-the-shoulder creation from Jason Wu. Prints are rarely seen on the red carpet and the amount of floral extravagance that Chan exemplified that night was relatively unprecedented. She might be new at this Hollywood fashion game, but it’s clear from her first two awards season appearances that Gemma Chan is off to carver her own unique identity.

Cody Fern in Maison Martin Margiela

Who could forget Cody Fern‘s ground-breaking outfit from the Golden Globes last week? He made himself an instant red carpet superstar by taking that massive risk, and on this night, he turned up once again in Maison Martin Margiela outfit also defied gender norms. In an intentionally disheveled one-piece look from the avant-garde label, he made a grunge and underground look fitting for a high profile event. The material was fraying, the edges were raw, and there was a noticeable cut-out by his waist. This look was as edgy as edgy can be on a Hollywood red carpet, and was perfectly capped off by an eye-catching pair of Margiela’s iconic Tabi boots in clinical white. It’s safe to say that Fern might just be the fashion star of the season!

The fashion stakes are getting higher for celebrities to turn it up a notch at the next red carpet events! If the Critics’ Choice Awards 2019 red carpet was any indication of what’s to come, this is going to be one hell of a fashion ride!
