Though Telfar Clemens wanted his Fall 2019 show to seem like a concert, complete with a moshpit area for the audience (there weren’t any standard seating available), it came out looking and feeling like an off-Broadway play instead. In any case, this sort of atmosphere was better suited for his strong political presentation this season. In an array of deconstructed basics and gender-fluid takes on casual staples, Telfar took back the country narrative from the right-wingers. Stereotypical imageries such as hardened denim, cowboy boots, and ten-gallon hats were given a more urban and cosmopolitan spin that’ll likely resonate with customers even outside the US. Perhaps the finer pieces in this offering were the ones in leather. Chocolate brown trousers and thigh-high boots both had a luxurious tinge to it that was slightly more upscale than the standard Telfar streetwear aesthetic. But when it comes to the brand’s faithful fans, they’ll mostly gravitate to those well-logoed sweatshirts and hoodies as well as the gender-fluid looks (a male and female model literally walked consecutively wearing the exact same outfit!). When it comes to messaging in today’s fashion arena, there’s really no one quite like Telfar Clemens!
